After a root canal treatment, our recommendation is to take an Ibuprofen based anti-inflammatory in the day of the treatment, no matter the symptoms. This helps reduce the apical inflammation or pain that may occur.
Your tongue, lips and cheeks can feel numb for a few hours after the session if anesthesia was used. Avoid eating or drinking hot liquids until numbness disappears. There is a risk of burns or biting your tongue or lips while the anesthesia persists.
It is possible to feel some tenderness in mastication on the treated tooth. Avoid chewing or biting on the tooth for a few days until the symptoms are gone.
